Have you ever asked yourself what does Google mean? And what it the genesis of the name?
According to David Koller, the original name of the first search engine invented by Larry Page and Sergey Brin (1996) was “BackRub”.
After some time the decided to rename it and had a brainstorming session trying to find a new fancy name and two of the proposed ones were “googolplex” and “googol“.
They both refer to large numbers. It is basically the digit 1 followed by one hundred zeroes (check out this wikipedia page in case you want to know more ).
Pretty cool, isn’t it?
What happened then? How did they cam up with the actual name Google?
Basically the name was misspelled as google by one of the guys present in the session and the rest of the crew liked it so much that they decided to register it.
